Hey /r/ps4,
with the season finale of game of GoT by Telltale Games approaching, I wanted to discuss the business ethics of a 'season pass disc' with you.
For those who dont know: Telltale is relasing a retail copy of the game simultaneously with the sixth episode and season finale, but this disc strangley does NOT include all six episodes - just 1 to 5 and the sixth as a digital download.
Now I dont want to talk about how Telltale easily could have included the final episode on the bluray when the game went gold, especially since it's a simultaneous release. But instead I want to talk about the implications that go along such a business tactic.

FACT: digital downloads are inferior to hard copies.
FACT: thats because somewhere along the lines, everybody will lose access to their digital games, whether its because your account is lost/banned, or the publisher wont put the game data on Sony's psn servers anymore because its old and doesnt sell, or because Sony wont support its older platforms anymore (See: PSP, ps2, soon: PS Vita)
FACT: if I buy a hard copy game, I should get the whole game.

Telltale is known for its episodic games, which is a refreshing way to tell a story instead of opting for expansion dlc or sequels. And they are first and foremost all digital games, the fact that they usually put a disc out for physical lovers like myself is a nice bonus, not something we're entitled to.
But this new way of a 'season pass disc', which is a weird solution inbetween digital download and digital disc, is not helping anybody. People with shit internet connection or data caps STILL have to download. And if I want to play my game 20 years from now, like I now do with my NES/SNES/N64 cartridges, I should expect it to fucking work (granted that neither console nor disc are corrupted).
But no, now I will be at the mercy of Sony AND a game Studio which for all I know could be out of business by then. I wont be able to play the FINALE of the game I paid full price for, if I can't download it by then.
Xbox users have it even worse: their ' season pass disc' only includes Episode 1 in the disc itself, all the rest is digital download.
This business practice seems to be the New Dogma of telltale: Minecraft Story mode got a season pass disc even before Episode 2 was released, just so annoyed parents would buy their demanding brat the game when they stumbled across it in a store.
Now I know what the ever cynical /r/ps4 will tell me: if you dont like it, dont buy it! Nobody's forcing you to participate!
But I would like to hear your personal opinions of why you think such a business practice is justified or not, and why the consument should have the short end of the stick or why not.
